Culture of Discipleship
Culture of Discipleship
As part of Vision 2030, our church is working to cultivate four cultures. One of these is the culture of discipleship. Discipleship is following Jesus Christ by learning from His teachings and striving to live according to His example. When Jesus calls us to follow Him, He calls us to bring our whole selves. Living as a disciple is not just about what we know but about who we are and what we do. It involves a deep commitment to growing in faith, love, and obedience to God in every area of our lives.
The ship wheel is intended to be a visual aid pointing to eight different aspects of discipleship: Bible and theology, service, life integration, mission, spiritual disciplines, wellness, community, and worship.
Each month of the 2024-2025 year, we are focusing on one “spoke” of the wheel. As we reflect on the call and invitation each represents, we are offering ways to go deeper via teaching, opportunities to join in activities and intentional communities at TGC, resources for personal or family study, and events outside our church.

Spiritual disciplines are biblically based practices that promote spiritual growth among believers. These include practices like scripture study, prayer, silence and solitude, meditation, stewardship, worship, and fasting. Practicing them individually and in community helps us seek God in every moment of our lives and invites the Spirit to shape us in conformity to Christ.

More of our life as a disciple takes place outside the church walls than inside them. Because our following Jesus goes well beyond what we do on Sundays, Life Integration is intentionally connecting every part of our lives to our faith. Incorporating our faith into the roles we play in our families, friendships, schools, workplaces, and communities is integral to living out the church's mission. Leaning on and learning with our brothers and sisters in Christ is a vital foundation for fully integrating our lives as we grow in Christlikeness.
