Jonah is unusual among the OT prophets in that it is not a collection of oracles from God to people, but a story about a prophet. The genre of the book is debated (history, allegory, parable, wisdom story, etc), but very clear messages from God are present, including God's compassion for all people, the sovereignty of God, the need for repentance, and the assurance that God will relent if requested. Jonah was also one of the few prophets whose mission was clearly successful (using only five Hebrew words)!
